We recommend 8×8 posts on every barn we build — they hold up best to South Florida wind and weather, especially on wider structures. 6×6 posts are typically an option on non-permitted buildings and can save money on smaller barns (24′ wide or less is the sweet spot). Note: Some counties require 8×8 posts under their building code, so if your project needs a permit your local building department may require the upsize. For 30′-wide and larger we strongly recommend 8×8 regardless.

Wall Height (Eave Height)

Eave height controls headroom inside for equipment, RVs, and overhead doors. If you might add lean-tos later, choose a wall height tall enough so the finished lean-to eave still clears what you need. Double-check this before moving on — it's easy to miss but hard to change later.
